Privacy policy
Data controller
The controller is the publisher of ip.bzh, a natural person publishing this site in a non-professional capacity, who can be reached at the address given at the bottom of this page. The site and the audience measurement are hosted in France by the Ti Nuage association, the publisher's processor. No data is sold or shared. See also the Legal notice.
Your IP address
- Your IP address is used to answer you. It is never written to disk or to logs: it only stays in memory, from a few seconds to ten minutes, to limit abuse and avoid repeating the same requests (including the reverse DNS lookup that gives your hostname). A restart of the server erases everything.
- The country, city and internet provider are resolved on ip.bzh, using data from IP Geolocation by DB-IP.
- To tell Tor exits apart, the server downloads the Tor Project's public list every hour; nothing about you is sent.
The tools
- The tools show their result to you alone and keep none of it. The port test only targets your own address; the e-mail header analyzer, the CIDR calculator and the IPv6 generator run in your browser.
- When a tool asks an outside service, that service only receives the name or address looked up, from ip.bzh, never your IP address:
- the IP address and domain name registries (RDAP, or whois for extensions without RDAP); a domain registrant's public contact details are shown as the registry publishes them, and not kept
- the Spamhaus, SpamCop, PSBL, Mailspike and DroneBL blocklists, over DNS
- the RIPE NCC's RIPEstat service, for an address's BGP route
- six public resolvers (Cloudflare, Google, Quad9, DNS4EU, AdGuard, DNS.SB), for the propagation test
- the DNS servers of a domain looked up, for its public records
- the web server of a domain looked up (ports 443 and 80), for its certificate and headers
- the mail servers of a domain looked up (port 25), for their certificate, never sending any mail
- Some of these services are outside the European Union, notably in the United States and Australia.
Audience measurement
- Visits are measured with Matomo, free software, on an instance of the association Ti Nuage: without cookies, with your IP address anonymised. It does not run if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, or if you refuse it below.
- The site's counters, without any address, are public: Statistics.
Without JavaScript, no audience measurement is made.
In your browser
- The Browser page's analysis only runs when you ask and is worked out in your browser, sending nothing. What the server measures itself (headers, network signatures, the “Even without JavaScript” demonstration) is sent back to you without being kept, or held two minutes in memory under a random identifier. Its third-party cookie test loads an invisible page from ipbzh.ti-nuage.fr, which sets an empty cookie valid for one minute and deletes it as soon as it has read it back. Besides it, the site only sets, when JavaScript is off, a cookie keeping your choice of theme and background (ipbzh-theme, ipbzh-bg), and nothing but that choice.
- Nothing is saved in your browser unless you ask: the theme you choose (local storage, key “theme”), your refusal of the audience measurement (key “ipbzh-no-audience”) and, if you ask for it on the Browser page, your fingerprint (key “ipbzh-fingerprint”), to show you what changed at your next visit. That page's “Forget” button erases everything. The game, if you play it, keeps your best score (key “ipbzh-game-best”) and your choice of sound (“ipbzh-game-sound”).
- If you play the online game, your name, your best score and its date are kept on the server and shown on the public board (the hundred best); nothing else, no address or identifier. Write to us to have one removed.
Legal bases
This processing rests on the publisher's legitimate interest in providing the service you ask for, protecting it from abuse and knowing how the site is used (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Limited to that use, the audience measurement is exempt from consent under the CNIL's guidelines. What is saved in your browser is saved at your request and needs no consent (Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act).
Your rights
- You can ask for access to your data, its rectification, erasure or the restriction of its processing, and object to its processing (Articles 15 to 21 GDPR). As ip.bzh keeps nothing that could recognise you, it can usually find no data about you (Article 11 GDPR).
- To exercise these rights or for any question: contact · ip.bzh
- If you believe your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority: cnil.fr.
